Megalodon – The Gigantic Prehistoric Shark

The Gigantic Prehistoric Shark (“Carcharocles megalodon”)

Megalodon (“Carcharocles megalodon”) was an amazing animal weighing in at around 70 tons and a length of nearly 60 feet. Based upon its size, it is estimated that this marine predator ate over a ton of food each day.  This enormous shark lived during the Miocene
and Pliocene periods (approximately 25 -1.8 million years ago).

Meglodon comes from the Greek words meaning big tooth and you can see from the photo above that this giant fish had big teeth, ranging in size from four to seven inches.
